SHAKESPEARE’S PLANT KINGDOM – THE OPEN GARDEN IN GDAŃSK
We had the pleasure of taking part in A Walk Through Shakespeare’s Plant Kingdom, a unique literary-botanical event organized by the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre as part of the International Shakespeare Festival in Gdańsk.
Set within the vibrant setting of an open garden, the walk invited us to explore the rich world of plants mentioned in Shakespeare’s plays—from rosemary and rue to willow and wild rose. Guided through the greenery, we rediscovered how deeply nature is rooted in his work, and how those same plants surround us in urban life today.
This thoughtful and beautifully curated event reminded us of the value of green spaces in the city—not only as decoration but as places of conviviality, reflection, and quiet connection with literature and each other. The garden became a stage, a classroom, and a shared space of imagination, where the past and present met through leaves and lines of verse.
We walked away inspired, seeing our everyday environment a little differently—more poetically and more attentively.
