FOOD – NATURE – CITY: CONVIVIAL PRACTICES
Food – Nature – City: Convivial Practices | Workshop day | THE OPEN GARDEN x INTERCROPPING REVISITED x THE OPEN KITCHEN with HUBA x Fundacja PLONY x Fundacja LAS
We concluded our CONVIVIUM Meeting in Gdańsk with a twist. On Saturday, we gathered for a workshop day at HUBA: the sprouting community garden at the Gdańsk Shipyard, facing Dust. Kitchen where we had a delicious dinner earlier that week.
We started the day with a mindfullness workshop and continued with a theoretical introduction and hands-on intercropping activity. We engaged with cultural imaginaries of convivial food through a collage-making workshop and concluded the day by creating our own ‘food maps’ of Gdańsk.
For us working in CONVIVIUM, the day offered a chance to take a breath after the intense moments of the three-day project meeting and think differently about our work. Even more importantly, though, we brought a wonderfully diverse group together: local practitioners who engage with community food practices in Tricity (Trójmiato), artists, activists, urbanists, city councillors, researchers, and academics. Conviviality, after all, is about living together and coming together with our diversity. That is precisely what we experienced.
We concluded the day with quite an encouraging feeling: thinking about convivial food that we engage with in CONVIVIUM carries a unique potential to bring people together. It is not just about theory. It’s about actively shaping the cities we live in, the everyday actions that turn into habits, and the futures that we build together.
