LIFE DURING THE VIKING AGE AND EARLY MIDDLE AGES IN LOFOTEN
Discover how people might have lived during the Viking Age and early Middle Ages at Borg in Lofoten.
The video is primarily in Norwegian, but it is highly visual and can therefore be enjoyed by audiences regardless of language.
At the Lofotr Viking Museum at Borg in Lofoten, an outdoor mediation app has been developed to help visitors explore the site. The app visualizes archaeological structures — such as houses and burial mounds — that are no longer visible in the landscape. In addition, selected objects from the museum exhibition have been digitally reconstructed and virtually returned to their original locations.
This is a situated, location-based AR simulation. A video has been produced to demonstrate how the app works. Please note that this is a prototype currently under development. The video quality is lower than the AR experience itself, which offers a significantly higher level of detail and immersion.
The app is part of a PhD project in Media and Communication at the University of Oslo by Elin Tinuviel Torbergsen.
3D modelling by Fink Raymond Juhl.
The PhD project is funded by Museum Nord, the Research Council of Norway, and Horizon Europe.
