FAMILY FOOD HERITAGE – EXHIBITION “FAMILY JEWELS: EDIBLE BEAUTY”
The Family Food Heritage Solution, developed within the European project CONVIVIUM: New European Bauhaus Solutions in Food, Living Heritage and Conviviality (ID: 101178921), is currently organising the exhibition “Family Jewels: Edible Beauty.” The exhibition will take place on May 20 and 21 at the Machado de Castro National Museum in Coimbra and at the Belém Cultural Centre in Lisbon (Portugal).
This artistic project is being developed in collaboration with people living in Portugal and aims to celebrate family recipes as part of our emotional and cultural heritage, presenting them as true “jewels.” The exhibition will feature a selection of dishes prepared by the Schools of Hospitality and Tourism of Coimbra and Lisbon, presented as edible installations and later shared with the public. These edible elements will be available on May 20 (Coimbra) and May 21 (Lisbon).
From May 21 to June 19, the exhibition will remain on display at the Machado de Castro National Museum in Coimbra. During this period, the edible installations will be replaced by photographs of the dishes, presented alongside the remaining exhibition materials, including handwritten recipe books—highlighting this “culinary art on paper”—and submitted recipes displayed on visual panels, including those not selected for preparation. The exhibition will also feature selected objects from the museum’s collection, such as paintings and tableware, establishing a dialogue with the theme of food heritage.
