CONVIVIUM NORWAY GATHERING IN LOFOTEN II
A fieldwork in New European Bauhaus ‘spirit
Tuesday, May 20th:
Waking up in the middle of the BEAUTIFUL Nyvågar Rorbuhotel, surrounded by the sounds of the seagulls, the wind and the sea, bathing in the bright light of the North, to be nurtured by a nice breakfast in good company, gave us the best starting point for todays’ adventures. The Utopia Workshop – held in a community house in Kabelvåg, awoke our imagination, dreams and hopes for the future. We were challenged to share, to discuss and to prioritize among our values. The core values we ended up with, were cooperation, incusion, playfulness and place. Our next task, then, was to incorporate these values in our next activity of the day: the Surplus Table. Food had been gathered and appointments made with local grocery stores and restaurants, now was the time to harvest the surplus food.
We also operated in groups and went into the fields: Nearby nature and gardens as well as local producers all had something to offer to our table. Back in the community house we continued to work in groups, each group cooking a separate dish, some tidying and some taking care of our surroundings to ensure continuous harmony and beauty around us. Finally, we could all gather around our Surplus Table, and the SUSTAINABLE meal was like a gift, an outstanding reason to get TOGETHER.
Moments of grateful silence occurred in between the lively discussions, accompanied by the sounds of children playing and asking for the attention of their parents who were still engaged in the meal and the conversations. As our meal came to an end, together with the cleaning and tidying up afterwards, we could conclude that our Surplus Table enclosed the values we had worked on in the Utopia Workshop earlier, and it was all good!
