CONVIVIUM NORWAY GATHERING IN LOFOTEN V
A fieldwork in New European Bauhaus ‘spirit
Friday 23rd
Time to part, time to research different aspects of our CONVIVIUM project.
We left Ure, one car heading for Skaftnes farm and then Ballstad, the other car going back to BEAUTIFUL Vestvågøy for a Workshop: Slæsj had recruited some locals for the fieldwork: They will be interviewing people about food heritage, -customs, -beliefs and -traditions. We came TOGETHER in the home of Vemund Storeide, a photographer and son of a previous informant, the quite famous Lofoten chef Malvin Storeide, who cooperated with some of our colleagues in a project 20 years ago. The Workshop contained a nice lunch, lots of local insight and information, as well as the teaching of practical skills.
For three of us, the journey then went on to Unstad, a very popular village and beach among windsurfers from all over the globe. We could easily observe and experience he paradox of mass-tourism and its meeting points with local SUSTAINABILITY. (Hint: look at the photo of the many heads of fish hung to dry in the wind ,- and try to imagine the smell…) Hint: local sheep grassing and the lack of public toilets… etc.
At Unstad, we became acquaintances with Karin, a carrier of local food recipes, food culture and customs, who offered us a look into artefacts such as old recipe books as well as old photos for the documentation project. She will be one of our informants in the CONVIVIUM project.
Three content fieldworkers then drove back to Svolvær, to the airport, – in time for the airplane to take us back to the more populated parts of Norway: the capital.
