GRENDEHUS THROUGH A SONIC NARRATIVE

Focusing on a single grendehus in Lofoten, it foregrounds listening as a way of knowing that moves beyond the primacy of the visual. The piece asks how the material and intangible histories of these houses can be activated and documented through sound—via field recordings, oral histories, acoustic traces, and creative sonic composition. Grounded in art-based research and attuned to the sonic textures of place, this short audio work underscores grendehus as cultural meeting places and custodians of local heritage.

Attached is a sonic narrative—an exercise in imagination and a different kind of seeing through listening. The music is based on the sound from the grendehus and composed by Julie Amilien Simon.
