Reconfiguring UNESCO Heritage Buildings through Food Heritage

Reconfiguring UNESCO Heritage Buildings through Food Heritage is a citizen science solution that enhances both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

It aims at creating digital tools for collecting, displaying, and disseminating food heritage in UNESCO World Heritage buildings, and establishing a Collaborative Lab of Past, Contemporary and Multicultural Food Heritage in one of those sites. On-site multimedia and virtual/digital tours, enriched with virtual and augmented reality (VR & AR) technologies, will offer immersive explorations of past food uses and buildings’ features, thereby improving the experience of visitors and granting renewed significance to the buildings as historical sites for food production and consumption. Tested in five sites in Coimbra, the tools and methods will become a model for adaptation to other contexts. The virtual multimedia tours will be available to everyone on the CONVIVIUM website.
